The wines we love
Whether you stroll down to the nearest winery, or take a short drive, there are a number of excellent wines to put to the test in and around Caux. We start off with these three, and encourage – no, we urge! – you to make sure you sample the work of their hands and take home a few bottles to enjoy during your stay at South to South. You will probably want to pack a few bottles in your luggage to share with friends and family who weren't fortunate enough to experience this trip with you – that is, if there's any left at the end of your stay ;-)
Mas Gabriel
A short stroll from South to South is Mas Gabriel, the small but mighty fine organic winery of English couple, Peter and Deborah Core. We think it's the best of all worlds when wine tasting can happen by foot, and with such charming hosts to boot.
The couple met in the '90s when Peter was financial director and Deborah a lawyer. But figures and law wasn't what they were dreaming of – rather, it was owning a small vineyard in France that occupied their future plans. So in 2002 they waved goodbye to London to chase the dream. The dream, however, needed some hands-on experience and training, so they headed off to New Zealand where they both obtained a certificate in viticulture and winemaking. They returned to Europe where they spent a season in Bordeaux but fortunately, their hearts were set on the south of France and by the end of 2004, they settled on Caux as their new home.
Head over to their website to find out more about them and their range of fabulous wines. Better still, take a short walk from South to South to visit them at their fabulous new tasting and take back a few bottles to enjoy at the pool.
Our summer favourite:
Les Fleurs Sauvages 2016 (rosé)

Domaine de Daurion
I bought my husband a bottle of this estate's wine at an event in Caux and then he went off to visit the farm without me!
This is another one of the area's seriously old vineyards that make insanely beautiful wines. Apparently many people agree as the estate has raked in some top awards.
in the 1950s, the Collet family, represented by Henri (the current owner’s grandfather), settled on the estate and has been there ever since. Winemaker Isabelle Cordoba-Collet is the third generation and she is making her mark by crafting some of the best reds we've tasted.
You'll have to visit their website for more information since I will only get to pop in to see the estate myself when we return to Caux in September.
I bought hubby the Intemporel because I really love him

Seigneurie de Peyrat
On the outskirts of Pézenas, a city known for its art and culture, and a short distance from the Mediterranean Sea, lies the large family estate of Seigneurie de Peyrat.
And large it is indeed, consisting of a castle, a walled park, gardens, vegetable gardens, an olive grove, woods, wild scrubland, and a vast vineyard.
In the midst of all of that, the Viennet-Espada family lives a refined lifestyle close to nature, combining tradition, passion and innovation.
Take a drive out there to discover this unique place steeped in so much history, enjoy the collection of elegant wines, and whatever you do, stay for a delicious lunch under the trees.

Just got this news – Domaine de Nizas won some great awards for their fabulous wines. I tried to translate the awards, but Google let me down. No problem, just make sure you get your hands on some of them. That rosé looks pretty perfect for the summer of 2018!
