The wines we love
Whether you stroll down to the nearest winery, or take a short drive, there are a number of excellent wines to put to the test in and around Caux. We start off with these three, and encourage – no, we urge! – you to make sure you sample the work of their hands and take home a few bottles to enjoy during your stay at South to South. You will probably want to pack a few bottles in your luggage to share with friends and family who weren't fortunate enough to experience this trip with you – that is, if there's any left at the end of your stay ;-)
Mas Gabinele
Rigorous, demanding and a perfectionist, winemaker Thierry Rodriguez – the grandson of a winegrower – manages his vineyard with care and professionalism.
Thierry keeps yields deliberately low, around 25 hl/ha. His objective? To produce beautiful, healthy and ripe grapes. His ambition? To produce great wines, which he certainly does.
Ideally located at an altitude of 180 meters, Mas Gabinele’s vines are surrounded by scrubland, made up of plants typical of the Mediterranean rim.
Today, the estate has 20 hectares of vines in production. The grape varieties planted are Carignan, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache Noir, Lledoner Pellut and Grenache Gris. So you see, there’s something for every discerning wine lover. There’s even their own olive oil, so grab a bottle of that, too!
Tastings are offered in a beautiful sales cellar with a very pleasant reception area.
Our favourite: Faugères

La Maison de Vin
Not a vineyard, nor a winemaker, but wow, is this a fabulous wine shop! By far our favourite for its wide range.
Not only has manager, Aurélien Carron, curated a fantastic array of great wines, he is super knowledgable, very nice and if French is a bridge too far, he speaks English.
As he says on his website, "Wine is a story of pleasure. Tasting pleasure, but also sharing, encounters, events to celebrate, waiting, satisfaction. La Maison du Vin would like to share with you its passion and its selection of wines from winegrowers. We will talk about the "Star" winegrowers, the many other little-known ones, the great houses and the peasant-winemakers!"
He will be able to suggest the perfect wine for you, at very reasonable prices and from all over the region (saves you driving to wineries that are located just a bit too far).
You can also order online, but then you’d miss out on meeting Aurélien.
